An airport connection doesn’t usually come with a chocolate factory, but New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido offers something considerably sweeter. ROYCE’ Chocolate World combines a working production area, chocolate museum, bakery and shop along the airport’s third-floor Smile Road.

Created by Hokkaido chocolate maker ROYCE’, the attraction opened in 2011 and was the first chocolate factory and museum located inside a Japanese airport. Visitors can watch chocolate production through glass, explore displays devoted to cacao and chocolate, and browse approximately 100 original products created for Chocolate World.

Watch Chocolate Being Made

The factory is one of the strongest reasons to stop.

Behind large viewing windows, visitors can watch machinery in operation as well as some of the detailed work completed by hand. The production area manufactures original ROYCE’ Chocolate World products, providing travellers with a glimpse of chocolate making without leaving the airport.
